Living in Victory: Feeding the Spirit, Not the Flesh
These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life, and that you may continue to believe in the name of the Son of God. 1 John 5:13
Every believer has two natures: one inherited through natural birth—sinful and flawed—and the other given through new birth in Christ, wholly good and reflective of God’s nature. This new life makes us a “new creation” (2 Corinthians 5:17), freeing us from being slaves to sin. Yet, the reality is that the battle between the flesh and the Spirit continues daily.
The question is, how do we resist the pull of the sinful flesh and live in the victory of our new nature? The answer lies in the power of the Holy Spirit, who dwells within every believer. He empowers us to crucify the flesh and say “yes” to God’s will.
We must remember: the old nature will not be eradicated in this life. However, we have a choice. Greater is He who lives within us than he who lives in the world. When we choose to feed the Spirit through prayer, Scripture, and obedience, we grow in holiness. But if we continually entertain sin, the old nature gains strength.
Today, take steps to strengthen your connection to God through prayer, worship, and time in His Word. Choose to say “no” to sin and “yes” to living in the fullness of the new life Christ has given you.
Prayer for today: Lord, thank You for the gift of the Holy Spirit who enables me to live in victory over sin. Help me to daily crucify the desires of the flesh and walk in step with Your Spirit. Teach me to feed the new nature You’ve given me through Your Word, prayer, and obedience. Thank You for the eternal life I have in You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
