Lift Up Your Heads, O Gates
Lift up your heads, O you gates! And be lifted up, you everlasting doors! And the King of glory shall come in. Psalm 24:7
Lift up your heads, O you gates! This is not just poetic language, it’s a spiritual call to attention. A summons for the heart to prepare for the King of Glory. This is a remind that the King of Glory will not force His way in. The gate must be lifted. The door must be open. And these are not just physical doors or gates, it is referring to the doors of our hearts, minds, our homes, and our lives.
Sometimes the gates of our lives are shut tight, out of fear, our of pride, out of past wounds. Maybe you have heard of the Savior, maybe you’ve even sought Him, but sometimes life closes the doors. Today, Psalm 24 meets you with grace and invitation: Lift up your heads…that the King of Glory may come in. This isn’t a verse of guilt; it’s a call to open the door in welcome. Let Him come into your habits. Let Him come into your relationships. Let Him speak into your fears, your identity, your future and your failures. Let the King come in and take His rightful place.
Prayer for today: Lord Jesus, King of Glory I lift up the gates of my heart today. You are worthy to come in. Rule here. Reign here. Rest here. You are my King. Amen.
