Junk Mail: What is right, Part II
And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise. Philippians 4:8
The concept of what is “right” is not defined by the world’s standards but by God’s Word.
In a world where everyone seems to have their own definition of what’s right, we need to constantly check our hearts and minds against God’s truth. The Word of God shows us what is truly right—His justice, His commands, His love, and His righteousness. When we are grounded in His Word, we are less likely to be swayed by the ever-changing standards of the world. Instead, we learn to align our thoughts, actions, and decisions with God’s will.
So, when you face decisions or confusion about what is right, pause and ask yourself, “What does God’s Word say about this?” Turn to Scripture and let it be your filter. In doing so, you’ll be guarding your heart from the destructive lies that the world often promotes.
And note standing up for the truth according to God’s Word may require us to go against our fleshly desires or the world’s opinions this is not easy. If you find yourself struggling to uphold God’s truth, I encourage you to remember two important steps:
Take it to the Lord in prayer. When the struggle feels overwhelming, bring your battles to God. Ask Him for the strength and wisdom to stand firm in His truth. Pray for His guidance and for the courage to do what is right, even when it’s difficult. God promises to give us the strength we need, but we must rely on Him.
Ask for help! Seek out prayer warriors. It’s easy to feel isolated when you’re standing up for what is right. But you don’t have to fight this battle alone. Find trusted prayer warriors—those who will support you, pray with you, and encourage you in your faith. We are called to bear one another’s burdens, and sometimes we need the strength of others to help us stand firm in our faith.
With prayer and support, we can rely on God’s supernatural strength to help us stay faithful to His truth. Let’s be committed to filtering out the world’s lies and staying grounded in what is right, according to God’s unchanging Word.
Prayer for today: Lord, Your Word is the standard for what is right. Help me to filter everything I hear or see through Your righteousness. Show me what is truly right in Your eyes, and give me the strength to follow it. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
