Junk Mail: What is beautiful?
And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise. Philippians 4:8
It’s easy to get caught up in the world’s standards of beauty—physical appearance, success, or popularity. But God’s standard is different. He looks at the heart and sees a beauty that goes beyond the surface. We can see His image reflected in the kindness of others, in their compassion, and in their acts of grace. We can see that despite what life holds for them today, the Word of God tells us in Ecclesiastes 3:11that He “has made everything beautiful in its time.” When we focus on the loveliness of others, we are reminded of how deeply God loves each person.
Today, let’s focus on the beauty not only found in creation but also in the people around us. While we may admire the flowers and the sunsets, God’s greatest creation is His people. When we look at others, we are called to see them as God sees them—beautiful, valuable, and loved.
Prayer for today: Heavenly Father, thank You for creating beauty in all things, especially in Your people. Help me to see the loveliness in those around me, and may I always remember that true beauty comes from You. Fill my heart with love for others, and help me to reflect Your beauty in all I do. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
