Joy in Fellowship
These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full. John 15:11
Joy is often found in the community of believers. Sharing life with fellow Christians, supporting one another, and worshiping together can enhance our joy. According to the Merriam Webster dictionary the word fellowship is defined as ‘community of interest, activity, feeling, or experience’. This definition encompasses the believer’s fellowship and the way we experience joy as we gather for worship, studying God’s Word, or a meal. We are gathered together with like minds and at the core of it all we are representing Christ.
One of the sources of Christian joy is this fellowship that believers have in Jesus Christ. In the New Testament we read when Paul was in Rome, his friends were miles away in Philippi, but their spiritual fellowship was real and satisfying. In Philippians 1:1-11, Paul used three thoughts that describe true Christian fellowship: I have you in my mind (Phil. 1:3-6), I have you in my heart (Phil. 1:7-8), and I have you in my prayers (Phil. 1:9-11).
Today I encourage you to take inventory on the role of fellowship in your life. Is your tank empty or full?
Prayer for today: Father, thank You for the gift of fellowship. Help me to build strong, supportive relationships with other believers and to find joy in our shared faith. Amen.
