Jabez – From Pain to Prayer
Oh, that You would bless me indeed and enlarge my territory…. – 1 Chronicles 4:10, NKJV
Jabez appears briefly in Scripture, almost hidden in a genealogy. In the First Book of Chronicles 4, we learn his name means “pain.” His mother named him out of sorrow.
His flaw? None recorded.
His mess? A label rooted in pain.
Yet Jabez refused to let his name define his future.
He prayed boldly for blessing, expansion, and God’s hand upon his life.
And Scripture simply says: “God granted him what he requested.” He turned pain into a petition.
In this Year of Purpose, your history may explain you, but it does not have to define you. Prayer can rewrite labels.
Prayer for today: Lord, break every label that limits me. Where pain has marked me, place purpose instead. Enlarge my territory according to Your will. Let Your hand rest upon my life, and keep me from harm. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
