It’s Time to Move On
Now the Lord said to Samuel, “How long will you mourn for Saul, seeing I have rejected him from reigning over Israel? Fill your horn with oil, and go; I am sending you to Jesse the Bethlehemite. For I have provided Myself a king among his sons.” 1 Samuel 16:1
David, of course, was the greatest king that Israel ever knew but when we first meet David, he is no great king in fact if you were to ask Samuel he was not even considered as a candidate for king. But before David, there was Saul. Saul, Israel’s first king, could have established his throne forever, but he was not interested in building God’s kingdom. Instead, he wanted to build his own name. Saul’s heart became hard and so God speaks very clearly to the prophet Samuel to let him know that He is moving on because He has another king in mind. This news makes Samuel sad because he had been the one to call Saul forward and he was the one who announced him as king and he really wanted Saul to get it and he worked with Saul. But God is clearly never stagnant and He is ready to move on, so God asks Samuel, how long will you mourn.
Today I wonder if God is asking us, the church this same question. How long will you mourn, living in what was and not moving into what can be?
We should not remain in a season of life that God is calling us to move on from. When the original plan does not succeed it can be difficult to see any hope in the future. Yes, I know it can be difficult to live in 2022 because all we can think about is what was in 2019. So many of us are so devastated because the way we thought it would happen is not the way that it did happen and with that disappointment, we have somehow given up on God.
Today, will you join me in moving forward? This is the only way we will be able to navigate through this journey called life, is if we keep trusting in God to propel us forward. I am not saying that you aren’t supposed to look back, but what I am saying is this – don’t stay there. God has chosen a new plan for you and we must trust in Him to see us through. We can draw wisdom from failure and go forward in faith. It’s alright to move on trusting that God will be with you along the way!
Prayer for today: Oh Lord give me hope in the areas of my life where I’ve quit believing. I bow down and ask that You give me the strength to carry on. Without you Oh God, I am no one. Lend me Your strength during this season of discouragement and lead me to victory and happiness. I trust in Your plans. Amen
