It’s Only a Shadow
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Psalm 23:4
Late one night I was in my room when suddenly I saw a large black shadow. It really startled me! When I looked up to see what large thing was casting the shadow in my room. I had to laugh when I saw it was a towel I left hanging earlier in the day. It occurred to me how easily our imagination can take over and make things seem much bigger than they actually are.
This has a parallel in the spiritual realm. Psalms 23:4 tells us, “Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil.” Many times, we see something, and we can be afraid, and we can either run away or we can fight, but often our enemy pretends to be much bigger than he really is.
We also see this reminder in 1 John 4:4 that ‘the Spirit who lives in you is greater than the spirit who lives in the world.’ Again, we are reminded not to be afraid because He who lives within us is far greater than any enemy living on the outside.
I want to encourage you today, as it says in our main verse for today, whatever you are facing, do not fear. No matter the struggle you are dealing with today, God is with you and He is greater than any mountain you’re facing.
Prayer for today: Lord Jesus, thank You that You are bigger than everything I may face today. Help me to know that You are always with me so I have nothing to fear. Please shine Your light and lead me. Amen.
