Is Your Anchor Secure?
We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. Hebrews 6:19
“Will your anchor hold in the storms of life,
when the clouds unfold their wings of strife?
When the strong tides lift and the cables strain,
will your anchor drift or firm remain?
We have an anchor that keeps the soul
steadfast and sure while the billows roll,
fastened to the Rock which cannot move,
grounded firm and deep in the Saviour’s love.”
— Priscilla Owens, Methodist Minister, 1882
This old hymn still echoes with truth today. When life’s storms surge and the winds of trouble howl around us, we are all faced with the same question: Will our anchor hold?
Can we truly depend on our anchor to grip the Rock of our hope, our strength, and our salvation? When the waves of suffering crash and roar, can we be confident we won’t be blown off course? Scripture answers with a resounding yes if our anchor is fixed in Christ.
Storms will come. That’s a certainty. But if your heart is fastened to the unshakable Rock of Christ, you won’t drift. You won’t be lost. You’ll endure not in your own strength, but because you’re anchored in His.
Today consider how strong is your relationship with Jesus? It’s not enough to know where the anchor is we must be connected to it. The line that ties us to the Rock must be held tightly in faith, nourished through daily trust, prayer, obedience, and the Word.
Prayer for today: Lord Jesus, You are my Rock, my refuge, and my firm foundation. Help me not only to trust that You are unmovable, but to stay deeply connected to You. Strengthen my faith and my love for You so that, when storms come, I will hold fast and never let go. Keep my soul anchored in Your truth and grounded in Your love. In Your name I pray, Amen.
