Independence Day
For freedom Christ has set us free. Stand firm, therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery. Galatians 5:1
What comes to your mind when you think of Independence Day?
For many Americans, the Fourth of July serves as a day to watch fireworks, barbeque and have a good time with friends and family. While there is nothing wrong with having these traditions, it is important to remember the reason behind why we celebrate this holiday.
So, why is it important to acknowledge the significance of Independence Day, and how can we do so in today’s world?
The gift of American liberty is a profound blessing bestowed upon us by God. This freedom grants us the privilege to openly profess and share our faith without fear. It is crucial to acknowledge that in numerous regions around the world, this freedom is absent. Our brothers and sisters in Christ face far greater costs and persecution for their commitment to follow Jesus. As we commemorate Independence Day, let us reflect upon the preciousness of our freedom and the responsibility we hold to support and stand in solidarity with those who do not share the same privileges. May we honor this day by advocating for religious freedom and raising awareness about the plight of persecuted believers worldwide.
There is also a day coming where we will have eternal freedom. It is the day of the return of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ! It is the beginning of real freedom, like no one has ever had before, except maybe Adam and Eve, before the fall of mankind. Those who have believed in Christ’s atoning blood for their sins and have trusted and believed in Him, will enjoy an eternity spent with Him. When Jesus comes, all our ungodliness along with our negative baggage goes away. And I can’t think of a better freedom than that.
This Independence Day will release the followers of Christ from the many sins that keep them entangled. Imagine, no more sickness, no more addiction, no more pain, no more gossip, no more hate, no more anything that does not reflect the positive attributes of the love of God and our Lord Jesus Christ.
Happy Independence Day! But I look forward to the day when we celebrate eternal independence.
