I Am The Light
The sun will no more be your light by day, nor will the brightness of the moon shine on you, for the Lord will be your everlasting light, and your God will be your glory. Isaiah 60:19
To live in the light is to center our lives wholly on its only true source: Jesus. When, in John 8:12, Jesus said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life”, He was expressing the amazing prophetic and eternal truth which Isaiah was referring to in our Scripture for today. The sun is not our light. The electrical lamp in your home, is not our light. Jesus is our light. He is constantly beckoning us away from the darkness of this world and calling us to a life centered around him and his kingdom.
When Jesus came down to Earth, He brought with Him more than a taste of Heaven – He brought Light into the darkness of a world that had turned their back on the living God and had chosen the spiritual darkness of the enemy’s rebellion.
You see, the path out of darkness always begins by looking to the light. We can’t escape darkness if darkness is all we’re looking toward. We can’t escape sin by just focusing on it and trying to fix it, heal it, or set ourselves free. Freedom comes by turning our attention to the God who conquered sin and death and fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith.
Today I invite you to turn your attention towards Jesus. He is our Light and can bring you out of whatever darkness you are facing today. God is in the business of lighting up the darkness through the sacrifice of His Son. So when we come to Him and receive salvation it’s as if Heaven’s light fills our soul and then, and only then, we can see things as they really are.
Prayer for today: Thank You, Jesus, that You brought Heaven’s light into the darkness of Earth. Help us, Lord, to always trust You and depend on You to shine Your light on the pathway that we walk on day by day. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
