How Great Thou Art
The heavens proclaim the glory of God. The skies display his craftsmanship. Psalm 19:1
The hymn “How Great Thou Art” is a powerful declaration of God’s majesty and the wonders of His creation. Written by Carl Boberg this hymn inspires awe and reverence as we consider the greatness of our God. The chorus, “Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to Thee, how great Thou art!” expresses the deep sense of wonder and praise that fills our hearts.
The words of How Great Thou Art invite us to stop and behold the greatness of our God. When we look at the heavens, the earth, the mountains, the stars, and the beauty of creation, we are reminded that these things are not accidents they point us to the Creator.
The hymn says, “Then sings my soul.” What a beautiful response. When we truly pause to consider who God is and all that He has made, worship becomes more than something we sing with our lips. It becomes the response of our soul. And yet, the hymn does not only lead us to marvel at creation. It points us to our Savior God. The God whose greatness we see in creation is the same God who knows us, loves us, and has come near to us. His greatness is not distant or impersonal. He is our Savior.
Today I encourage you to spend some time outside today, observing God’s creation. Let the sights and sounds around you inspire your worship and lead you to sing “How Great Thou Art.”
Prayer for today: Great God, Mighty Creator, we stand in awe of Your greatness and power. As we sing “How Great Thou Art,” fill our hearts with a profound sense of wonder and gratitude for all that You have made. May our voices rise in joyful praise, and may our lives reflect Your glory. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
