Hope Anchored In Faith
For in this hope we are saved. But hope that is seen is no hope at all. Who hopes for what he already has? But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently. Romans 8:24-25
Merriam Webster’s dictionary says that ‘hope’ implies little certainty, but suggests the possibility that what one desires or longs for will happen. This definition is broad. The concept of hope varies in the eyes of the world. It often implies a sense of uncertainty, a desire for something in the future that may or may not come to fruition. But for those who believe in God, hope takes on a different meaning.
Our text today reminds us that true hope does not disappoint us. This hope is a product of knowing we are deeply loved by God, our good and faithful Father, who cares for His children. When we align our desires with His kingdom purposes, our prayers become a confident hope, and we can patiently await their fulfillment.
The believers hope is the assurance that, when God leads you to pray, in return you will experience His peace. The hope of a believer is not a mere wish for something unknown. It’s the assurance that, through prayer, God will make visible what is currently unseen. It’s born from communion with the Father, as the Holy Spirit reminds us of His promises and imparts His peace. This hope becomes the bedrock upon which faith is built.
As we reflect on the nature of hope, let us understand where our hope lies and that is in God. God can’t break a promise, so, resting on His unchanging character, doubt is dispelled. As our text for today tells us, when we’ve already received something we don’t hope for it, but we hope for that which we’re waiting in faith for. When the desires of your heart are His desires for His kingdom purposes you will receive that which you’re praying for in hope.
In times of doubt or impatience, remember that hope, rooted in God’s love, will not disappoint. It is the anchor for our souls, firm and secure.
Prayer for today: Loving Father, we thank You for the hope that springs from our relationship with You. May we hold fast to this hope, knowing that You are the source of all promises. Help us to align our desires with Your will, and as we pray, grant us the patience to await Your perfect timing. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
