Honored by God
When they call on me, I will answer; I will be with them in trouble. I will rescue and honor them. Psalm 91:15
We all desire to be acknowledged. Deep down inside we want to be recognized for something we’ve done. However, being honored by men is nothing compared to the honor we receive from God. It is truly a mind-boggling concept to think that God would tell us that He would honor us.
Let’s think about what it looks like when God places His honor on someone’s life. It looks like favor. Consider the accounts written in the Old Testament about Joseph. Going from the pit to the palace, Joseph matured and passed through some very difficult times but found that favor wasn’t just for a fleeting moment but it lasted for a lifetime. Honor is a unique gift God gives us—simply because we love Him!
Have you had a time when you have been favored by God? Interestingly, it can be challenging for a period of time. However, we know that God has the final say. God will be with us in trouble. Many times, we read of the storms in life. Problems are normal. We shouldn’t think that when we have troubles God isn’t answering or He doesn’t care.
Psalm 3:3 says “You, Lord, are a shield around me, my glory, and the one who lifts up my head.” The word for glory here is the same as the word for honor in Psalm 91, although in Psalm 3, it uses the noun and in Psalm 91, it is the verb. I encourage you to meditate on these words and receive God’s comfort in them.
