Holy Thursday

Holy Thursday
Peter said to him, “Even if I must die with you, I will not deny you.” And so said all the disciples. Matthew 26:35
Today represents Holy Thursday.
The triumphal entry into Jerusalem. The cleansing of the temple. The teaching and the miracles. All displayed Jesus’s power and the faith of the disciples soared. They walk to the Garden of Gethsemane. There Jesus prays in agony, knowing what lay ahead of him.
Now, on this fifth day of the week, Holy Thursday, came the most intimate moment of all, the Passover meal, that high holy feast, just the twelve and Jesus. On this day, many years ago, Jesus gathers with his disciples in the upper room to prepare them for his death, and to prepare himself as well. Jesus celebrates the Passover meal and gives it new meaning as he washes their feet, predicts his betrayal, and institutes the “Lord’s Supper.” Over and over, at the table, He reiterated His love for them, even kneeling before them a sign of humility to wash their feat.
I know the last thing on your mind today is the thought of servanthood yet, in His most memorable moment this is what our Savior did. Today, consider what you can do to serve someone in need. Is there a task you can accomplish that will benefit someone else? Your action of a text, a call, or kindness of heart can make the different today in someone’s life.
Prayer for today: Dear Jesus, on this day, we remember Your unselfish example, Your betrayal, the institution of Holy Communion and Your prayer in the Garden of Gethsemane. Amen.
