God’s Waiting Room
The smallest family will become a thousand people, and the tiniest group will become a mighty nation. At the right time, I, the Lord, will make it happen. Isaiah 60:22
Are you in God’s waiting room? If so, while you’re in there how is your faith? How is your patience? What are you waiting for? Are you waiting with patience? Are you waiting with courage? Are you waiting with peace? Are you waiting for a misunderstanding to be rectified or a job to materialize? Perhaps you are waiting for someone to be released from his or her pain and suffering. Regardless of which side of the waiting you are on, perhaps the words written in Isaiah 60 will bring you comfort. Isaiah 60 ends with these words, ‘At the right time, I, the Lord, will make it happen’. Just reading it as I am sharing it with you gives me courage.
Waiting on God does not mean waiting on everything else in life until the prayer is answered, the situation is fixed, or the nightmare is over. Waiting on God gives us a chance to grow trust while we busy ourselves with whatever personal responsibilities we have.
Scripture tells us, just when we think it’s over God comes in at the right time and begins to move. What an amazing thought! The Lord knows the right time for everything. And He will make things happen in His time.
Often, people are waiting for God to act and it seems like nothing is happening. Humanly speaking, it is easy to get impatient and wonder why God isn’t doing it yet. Perhaps you are in this place now. You feel that God should be doing something to help your situation by now and you are getting tired of waiting.
I would like to encourage you today. Don’t give up! Reflect on the words written for times like this – ‘At the right time, I, the Lord, will make it happen’. Trust that God knows your need and He will do it at the right time. Allow Him to develop the fruit of the Holy Spirit in your life as you wait. (And I’m talking to myself here, too.) Keep your eyes fixed on Him, not just watching for Him to act, but to know Him, to have relationship with Him. As we grow in knowing Him, we will be better able to trust Him.
Prayer for today: Dear Lord, I have to be honest. I don’t like waiting rooms. Too often, I want to give You a deadline and then am disappointed when You don’t meet it. Give me the faith and patience to wait well and not fail to carry out those things You have for me to do during this waiting time. I want to trust You more; I want to grow in my patience—but it’s so hard. Give me the strength to accept this difficult situation in my life and to trust Your perfect timing. Give me patience to wait for You to move in my situation and use this time to develop a deeper relationship with You. Build Your character within me through this waiting period. Amen.
