God Will Fight
Bless those who persecute you. Don’t curse them; pray that God will bless them. Romans 12:14
We often think of God as our protector, but did you know that He is also your defender? In life, there will always be people who misunderstand, dislike, criticize, and judge you. Some may even attack your character or spread false rumors. It’s natural to feel the urge to fight back and defend yourself when these things happen. The first instinct is often to respond to criticism with criticism, or to return insults with insults.
But don’t give in to that impulse! Instead, let God be your defender. Whenever you face attacks, criticism, or misunderstandings, you have two options: you can choose to defend yourself, or you can trust God to stand up for you. Let Him fight for you.
When we are wronged, it can be tempting to seek revenge. However, vengeance belongs to the Lord. God’s justice is perfect and holy, unlike human attempts at retribution. Trusting Him to act allows us to release anger and focus on healing.
In Psalm 62:5-7, David said this: “I depend on God alone; I put my hope in him. He alone protects and saves me; he is my defender, and I shall never be defeated. My salvation and honor depend on God; he is my strong protector; he is my shelter” (GNT).
As believers, we are called to a higher standard in how we handle conflict. Jesus didn’t just call us to forgive; He called us to love those who have hurt us. This seems impossible in our human strength, but that’s why we rely on God’s Spirit. Love isn’t just a feeling—it’s an action, a choice to be kind and patient even when it’s difficult. Take a moment today to pray for someone who has hurt you. It may feel awkward at first, but prayer is a powerful step toward softening your heart.
Prayer for today: Jesus, You call me to love my enemies and pray for those who hurt me. I confess that this is hard for me to do. But I trust in Your strength to help me live out this radical love. Soften my heart and teach me to love as You love. Amen.
