God Speaks to Our Hearts
So we will not fear when earthquakes come and the mountains crumble into the sea. Psalm 46:2
Mountains provided refuge in times of war and were considered to be the most secure part of nature. They were the most fixed and firm things on earth. It is no coincidence when the Psalmist says “So we will not fear when earthquakes come and the mountains crumble into the sea.” – Psalm 46:2 Here the writer is imagining the worst calamity that could possibly happen and closing by saying even though the ‘mountains crumble into the sea’, or the landscape suddenly changes, we don’t have to be afraid. It was this confidence that the prophet Isaiah had when he said: “The Lord gives perfect peace to those whose faith is firm. So always trust the Lord because He is forever our mighty rock”. – Isaiah 26:3
God not only listens to our prayers, but He also speaks to our hearts. No matter how bad things get, we can always count on God’s presence to be with us, speaking to our hearts and leaving us with peace. Often, His voice is gentle and still, prompting us to quiet our souls so we can hear Him more clearly. When we pause in prayer and allow ourselves to be still, we open our hearts to receive the wisdom, comfort, and direction God wants to give us.
Prayer for today: God, I want to hear Your voice. Help me to be still and listen to what You are speaking to my heart today. Amen.
