God Prompts Us to Action
But don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves. James 1:22
Prayer is not just about receiving peace and guidance—it’s about responding to God’s call. God often speaks to us through prayer, not just to comfort us but to move us into action. James 1:22 says “But don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves.” When we pray, we should be ready for God to prompt us toward a change, an act of obedience, or even a new direction. The challenge is to not only hear what He says but to be willing to act on it.
Earlier in the book of James we are told that God uses trials and tests. We know that God uses everything in our lives to produce perseverance. How do we know this? Because we’ve read in God’s Word, but if you have ever given over to obedience, then you’ve experienced a ‘here I am use me Lord’ moment. Our part is to speak with our Heavenly Father, continue to press into His Word, let God show us what needs to change, and then apply it to our lives.
Today, consider the ways in which God has been prompting you to take action recently?
Prayer for today: Father, when You speak, help me to listen and to act. Give me the courage to step out in obedience to Your will. Amen.
