God My Rock
Turn your ear to listen to me; rescue me quickly. Be my rock of protection, a fortress where I will be safe. Psalm 31:2
If there was ever a time we need to be reminded God is our Rock, now is that time. There are many places in Scripture where God is likened to a rock. In Genesis 49:24 God is called ‘the Rock of Israel’. God says of Himself in Isaiah 44:8, ‘Is there any God besides Me? No, there is no other Rock; I know not one’.
The Psalms are also full of this image of God as the Rock, the safe place. Over and over again, especially when he faced challenging times, David, in the Psalms, declares that God is his rock:
‘The Lord is my protector; he is my strong fortress. My God is my protection, and with him I am safe. He protects me like a shield; he defends me and keeps me safe’ (Psalm 18:2).
‘He pulled me out of a dangerous pit, out of the deadly quicksand. He set me safely on a rock and made me secure’ (Psalm 40:2).
‘Be my rock of refuge, to which I can always go; give the command to save me, for you are my rock and my fortress’ (Psalm 71:3).
Are you feeling unsettled today? Is your default thought that of fear? How about taking a leaf out of David’s book and declare to yourself, to the enemy and to God that He is your Rock, your firm foundation. And fix your focus on God and His promises.
Prayer for today: God I declare today that You are my Rock. I praise You, my Rock and the stronghold of my life. Today I choose to look to You and declare that in You I am secure. Amen.
