God Delights in You
He rescued me because he delights in me. Psalm 18:19b
One of my favorite times of year is graduation season. After years of hard work, studying, passing exams, and showing up consistently, students walk across the stage to receive their diploma, a reward earned by their effort.
But in the kingdom of God, it doesn’t work like that.
God’s rescue isn’t earned. It’s not the result of us passing spiritual tests or doing everything right. In fact, Romans 5:8 tells us, “God shows His love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” We didn’t deserve His help. We didn’t achieve His rescue. He came for us because He delights in us.
That truth should humble us and fill us with awe. There was nothing inherently good in us, no spiritual resume to show off. And yet, God loved us. He delighted in us. That love moved Him to action. His rescue is not cold or transactional; it’s tender, personal, and rooted in divine joy.
Paul writes in Ephesians 1:3 that God has “blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing.” These blessings don’t come because we earned them, but because of God’s grace His unmerited favor. As Ephesians 2:8–10 reminds us, we are saved by grace, not by works, and we are His workmanship crafted by God for His purposes.
This kind of love calls for a response. When we truly grasp that we’ve been rescued not because of who we are but because of who He is, it should lead us to live each day in praise of His glorious name.
Prayer for today: Father, I stand amazed that You delight in me. I did nothing to deserve Your rescue, yet You reached out in love. Thank You for Your grace, for saving me through Christ, and for blessing me with every spiritual blessing. May I live today in worship of You. Amen.
