God answers prayer    

I am passionately in love with God because he listens to me. He hears my prayers and answers them. As long as I live I’ll keep praying to him, for he stoops down to listen to my heart’s cry. Psalm 116:1-2

Do you love the Lord because he hears you? Do you know he listens to your prayers? David was known as a man who was close to God and is described as a man ‘after God’s own heart’. In Psalm 116 we learn about a time when David called out to God thinking he was about to die. God didn’t let him die. Why not? David explains that ‘the Lord is merciful and good; our God is compassionate’ (Psalm 116:5). Through past experiences David came to know God personally. God had been merciful to him personally and now his relationship with God was stronger than ever.

10David admitted he had been full of fear when he was in danger, but he had called out to the Lord in his distress. He knew God had intervened in his situation and saved his life. Now he felt so close to God and was conscious of walking in His presence.

We all talk to ourselves, either out loud or silently, but do we speak encouragement to our hearts? David spoke to himself saying, ‘be confident my heart, because the Lord has been good to me.’ He was reinforcing his faith and reminding himself of his blessings.

Prayer for today: Loving Father, I want to be like David and remind myself of Your goodness and mercy. Keep me focused on You. Amen
