Go To Sleep
He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters. Psalm 23:2
Sleep is more than just a natural rhythm of life it is a spiritual gift from God. When the psalmist writes, “He makes me lie down in green pastures,” it is a picture of God as our Shepherd, lovingly leading us to rest. Just as sheep cannot truly rest unless they feel safe and provided for, we too often struggle to rest when our minds are burdened with worry, stress, or fear.
But God, in His goodness, commands us to pause. To lie down. To rest. It’s His way of saying, “Stop striving. Stop worrying. Let Me handle what weighs you down.”
Science confirms what Scripture has long told us: rest is essential.
Rest and Repair – Sleep allows the body to heal, restore energy, and strengthen the immune system.
Hormone Regulation – It balances stress, growth, and metabolic processes.
Heart Health – Sleep lowers blood pressure and protects against disease.
Emotional Health – It stabilizes mood, reduces anxiety, and improves resilience.
Spiritual Clarity – A rested mind is more open to hearing God’s voice.
So tonight, if you find yourself tossing with anxious thoughts, remember: the Shepherd is inviting you to green pastures. He’s whispering, “Sleep, My child. I’ve got this.”
Prayer for today: Lord, thank You for being my Shepherd who leads me to rest. Help me release my worries and trust that You are in control. Teach me to value the gift of sleep as a holy reminder that I am not in charge, You are! As I lay down tonight, calm my heart, renew my strength, and let me find peace beside Your still waters. Amen.
