Get Ready
But when you pray, you must believe and not doubt at all. James 1:6
Recently I came across a story of a couple who just after a few months of marriage wanted to purchase a freezer. As believers not only did they pray for a freezer, but they really felt that God wanted them to have it and had promised it to them.
Eventually sometime had passed and the freezer did not come. Shortly after disappointment set in.
Feeling let down, they shared their disappointment with another friend, who asked a very perceptive question – Where are you going to fit a freezer into this small apartment?
This question ignited a fire within the couple. It alerted them to the fact that although they had prayed for a freezer, had faith for a freezer, they were not really acting as if God was going to provide one! The next day they set about clearing a space big enough for the freezer – and within a week it had arrived.
While this story has a happy ending and I am rejoicing for them. It has me thinking, ‘Are Your Prepared for the Blessings of God? Many of us are believing God for incredible things. We are asking others to intercede on our dreams, visions, and desires placed in our hearts by God and we’re believing God to make good on His promises to us. We even find comfort in the scripture that tells us “all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen” (2 Corinthians 1:20). While the promises of God are without void, we have a responsibility to make sure we are preparing for God’s blessings and promises. The Bible states faith without works is dead (James 2:17). As with the story, God did not move until the couple began to prepare a place for the freezer.
Preparing for God’s blessings requires faith into action. It’s not enough to simply say you’re ready to receive God’s blessings, and yet do nothing to position yourself for God’s blessings. God loves our faith and trust in Him, and He promises to answer our prayers when we ask in faith, but He expects us to act as if the prayer is already answered. That’s the kind of faith that really pleases Him.
If you have a need that has not yet been met, but you are sure that God has promised to meet it, start acting as if it has indeed been met – and see what happens.
Prayer for today: Loving Father, give me the faith not only to believe Your promises but to act as if they are already fulfilled. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
