Finding Refuge in His Word
Hear my cry O God; attend unto my prayer. Psalm 61:1
Psalm 61:1 declares, “Hear my cry O God; attend unto my prayer.” In these simple yet profound words, the psalmist echoes a universal human longing—the desire to be heard. There are times in my life where I have felt overwhelmed, lost and lonely. It is in these moments I pray the words written in today’s verse. Lord, can you hear me? It is a question that resonates in the depths of our souls, especially during moments of distress, uncertainty, or solitude.
In Psalm 61 this is the reality of where David is at. He’s not ashamed of his weakness or his need, thinking it ungodly and wrong, he simply cries out to the Lord to save Him and lead Him to the safe place that is our Father God. In our pursuit of connection with God, let us find solace in the truth that, yes, He can hear us now and always. He is our towering rock of safety, in Him we find true peace and comfort which is not attainable to visit by our own strength or cleverness.
If you are like me and are feeling overwhelmed today, cry out to God. The Creator of the universe leans down to listen, inviting us to pour out our hearts before Him in confidence and trust. For even in the overwhelm, once we have acknowledged our need for Him, we still have to put one foot in front of the other and choose to allow Him to lead us to the place of peace.
Prayer for today: Lord Jesus, thank You for making it possible for me to shelter in the towering rock of safety that is my Father God, even though I don’t deserve it. Amen.
