Finding God in Exile
During the third year of King Jehoiakim’s reign in Judah, King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon came to Jerusalem and besieged it. Daniel 1:1
The story of Daniel provides profound lessons on how God remains in control, even in exile. Daniel and his fellow Israelites were separated from God and out of their comfort zone and discovering God’s sovereignty amidst life’s disruptions.
The exile of Daniel and his fellow Israelites was a profound disruption. Their homeland was plundered, and they were forcibly relocated to a foreign land. It’s easy to feel lost and defeated in such circumstances. In this exile we also see how God’s sovereign hand kept His children. Despite the chaos, the book of Daniel underscores that God’s hand was still in control. In the midst of their exile, God was working out His divine plan.
The story of Daniel reminds us that even in exile, whether it’s physical, emotional, or spiritual, God remains in control. Even in exile, we see how Daniel maintained his identity as a faithful servant of God. He was determined not to compromise his values. Our identity as children of God transcends our physical location or life circumstances. Hold firm to your beliefs. Trust that God will keep you as you praise Him through it all.
Prayer for today:
Heavenly Father, in times of disruption and exile, help us to trust in Your sovereignty. May we find peace in knowing that You are in control, even when life feels uncertain. Grant us the faith and wisdom to navigate these moments with grace. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
