Enjoying the Present

Enjoying the Present
We should make the most of what God gives, both the bounty and the capacity to enjoy it, accepting what’s given and delighting in the work. It’s God’s gift! God deals out joy in the present, the now’. Ecclesiastes 5:19
The internet has given us the wonderful gift of information at our fingertips, but with that came a new fear. One of the key issues these days is the anxiety which comes from constant comparison and FOMO (fear of missing out). The truth is we are to enjoy where we are in the present. Do not wish away today in hopes for tomorrow. No, instead we must learn to thrive in today and find contentment in God.
The writer of Ecclesiastes says, ‘We should make the most of what God gives, both the bounty and the capacity to enjoy it, accepting what’s given and delighting in the work. It’s God’s gift! God deals out joy in the present, the now’ (Ecclesiastes 5:19, The Message). Learn to enjoy this wonderful gift of life in the present. If you do not, life will pass you by and you will never enjoy where you are right now.
The Lord has also left us encouragement in the New Testament. Paul says in 1 Corinthians 7:1 “But as God has distributed to each one, as the Lord has called each one, so let him walk.” – meaning where you are right now is the perfect place for God to use you.
Enjoy today. See God’s hand in it and continue to live out the good work of the Lord.
Prayer for today: Dear Lord, help me to avoid unnecessary ‘strife’ through distractions. Help me to live in undivided devotion to You, not just to survive, but to thrive and enjoy life in all its fullness.
