Enjoying life, Part III
For let him who wants to enjoy life and see good days [good-whether apparent or not] keep his tongue free from evil and his lips from guile (treachery, deceit). 1 Peter 3:10
There are so many people who have the mindset that they will be really happy and enjoy life when…when they get rich when they go on vacation when the kids are older when they get higher on the ladder of success at work when they get married…the list could go on and on. Author Jared Springer wrote a book titled “I’ll Be Happy When” to describe the falsity of this mindset. The principle behind the “I’ll be happy when” syndrome is the belief that you only attain happiness and joy “when” you do something specific, instead of seeing each and every day for the miracle that it is.
God wants us to enjoy life now, not when. Place the seasons of your life in God’s hands. Ask God to transform your attitudes and bring positive results out of negative situations as you travel through life’s seasons.
Thank God for the Holy Spirit, who lives in every believer and gives us strength to endure and anointing to live this ordinary, day-to-day life with God-given joy. Understand that denying yourself enjoyment doesn’t somehow make you a more serious spiritual person. Remember that God Himself is joyful and intends you to fully enjoy the gifts He gives you. Go ahead and have fun pursuing your interests, living life and becoming a walking testimony of God’s goodness.
