Empty Jars
Then go inside and shut the door behind you and your sons. Pour oil into all the jars, and as each is filled, put it to one side. 2 Kings 4:4
In response to the widow’s cry in 2 Kings Chapter 4, Elisha asked two questions – What can I do to help you? And, what do you have in the house? The widow came to Elisha to seek God’s help, but Elisha responded by asking the widow what she had. It is quite the lesson for us that God used what she had – a little oil to provide for her needs.
God often puts dreams in our heart but we don’t feel like we have enough to accomplish them. Maybe it’s not enough money to quit our job and start that dream business, or a degree to apply for that job. I want to encourage you today that you have exactly what you need! The story does not tell us that God used something else to bless and provide for her and her sons. Let this too be a reminder that God will use what we offer to Him.
Just like the widow and oil in 2 Kings 4:1-7, she felt overwhelmed and discouraged yet she had everything she needed right in her house! When we seek God first and give Him what we have He will always be faithful to give us what we need and more. Just start by using what you have and see how God moves in your life!
