Emmanuel
Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel,” which is translated, “God with us. Matthew 1:23
In the Gospel of Matthew (1:23), we are reminded of the divine promise fulfilled in the arrival of Jesus: “Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel” (which means, God with us). As we exchange gifts and share festive meals, let us not forget the greatest gift of all—the presence of God in our lives.
The nativity scene unfolds with a humble stable, a newborn babe, and a guiding star. In that moment, God chose to enter our world, not in the splendor of a palace, but in the simplicity of a manger. This act of divine humility teaches us the true essence of love, compassion, and the joy found in the company of those we cherish.
Amidst the hustle and bustle of this week, take a moment to embrace the stillness and acknowledge the presence of Emmanuel in your life. In the warmth of a hug, the twinkle of a Christmas light, and the melody of carols, feel the divine love that unites us all.
Christmas is a reminder that, through Christ, God is intimately connected to our human experience. In our joys, sorrows, triumphs, and challenges, God is with us. As we continue to exchange smiles, laughter, and kind gestures today, let us recognize the divine spark within each person we encounter—a reflection of God’s enduring presence.
