Do You Need Help?
I will lift up my eyes to the hills—From whence comes my help? Psalm 121:1
Psalm 121 is part of a special collection in the Bible known as the Psalms of Ascent. Fifteen Psalms starting with Psalms 120 all the way to Psalm 134 that were sung by Jewish pilgrims as they journeyed up to Jerusalem for the great annual festivals. These were not just religious traditions—they were deeply spiritual pilgrimages. The journey itself was demanding, often long and uncertain, and these songs were a way for travelers to anchor their hearts in God as they moved forward, step by step.
Psalm 121 isn’t just an ancient travel tune. It’s a spiritual anthem for our journey through life.
We’re all travelers—navigating family, work, illness, joy, aging, growth, and faith. These psalms were called “songs of ascent” not only because people were literally going up to Jerusalem, but because they lift our eyes upward to God. They guide our hearts step by step as we move toward Him, no matter where we begin.
In this devotional, we’ll walk through Psalm 121 as a roadmap for trust. It offers us four powerful truths—stepping stones—that help us journey through life with courage, clarity, and peace. No matter where you are on the road right now—whether just stepping out in faith or feeling weary from the climb—Psalm 121 invites you to lift your eyes and remember who walks with you.
Let’s take that first step together.
Prayer for today: Lord, we thank You that as we journey through life, You never leave us alone. Teach us to trust You as our Helper, Keeper, Protector, and Preserver. You watch over our coming and going, both now and forevermore. Amen.
