Do-Over: Made New in Christ
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The only has gone, the new is here! 2 Corinthians 5:17
As we approach the end of the year, it’s natural to reflect on the past and make plans for the future. In Christ, every day is an opportunity for renewal. The birth of Jesus was the beginning of a new covenant—a promise of redemption and transformation.
2 Corinthians 5:17 is a wonderful reminder of the newness that we have in Christ. God’s grace is bigger than our regrets. And even though the consequences of past mistakes may linger, the old has gone and the new has come. While this verse is directly related to the one-time gift of salvation, God’s grace is certainly also experienced daily. Lamentations 3:23 tells us that God’s mercies are new every morning. His grace and mercy are new and fresh every day.
This gives us reason for great joy. There is no reason to look back and regret. In Christ, we have been given the ultimate do-over. Each day is a gift, a new opportunity to live a life that pleases God in His strength, not our own.
So today, whatever burdens or regrets you may carry from this year, remember that in Christ, you have a fresh start. His mercies are new every morning, and His grace is sufficient for every challenge. Let this truth guide you as you step into the new year.
Are you carrying the burden of regret? If so, lay it at the foot of the cross and embrace the newness of God’s great mercy for you today.
Prayer for today: Lord, thank You for making all things new through Christ. As I step into a new year, I surrender my life to You and trust in Your power to transform and renew me. Help me to walk in faith and gratitude every day. Amen.
