Complete in His Love
May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God. Ephesians 3:19
How can we love someone we have never seen? How can we receive love through words and images? When I think of the compassion and the sacrifice of Jesus, there’s a certain quickening in my soul. But is this love?
The Bible tells us that the joy of the Lord is our strength (Nehemiah 8:10). I’m confident in what I understand and what I believe about Jesus. His pathway to the cross gives me hope, gratitude and encouragement – but joy? Yes joy! When we fully understand the fullness of what God has done through sending His Son on the cross I am overwhelmed by this.
How do I receive Him so that I can know His heart, and respond by giving Him mine? How can I know the deep inexpressible joy that comes from a closeness to Jesus?
Jesus died to lift our sins and take them to the cross, where He died, along with my old, sinful self. Because of this great sacrifice, I can now receive forgiveness, grace and mercy from the Lord and know the new resurrected life of Jesus, living in me, born again by the Holy Spirit. There’s a joy welling up inside, knowing that I’m now free to love Him. I can live again in the joy of being united with Christ ‘Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God’ (Ephesians 3:19).
Prayer for today: Father, may I draw closer to You today, so that I can know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent. I come before Your throne of grace with clean hands and a pure heart, because Your sacrifice for me made them so. May Your love well up in my heart, so that I respond with deep love for You. In the name of Jesus, Amen.
