Comfort Says God
Comfort, comfort my people, says your God. Isaiah 40:1
In the New King James Version of the bible the heading for Isaiah 40 says, God’s People Are Comforted. In this passage Israel had been through yet another devastating time with enemy attacks and bloodshed, yet in the midst of it all God spoke these deeply compassionate words to her. God’s comfort brought relief in their time of affliction, when yet even more invading armies assaulted their borders, stealing all that God had given to them and taking their people into captivity. Today God still desires to comfort His children.
We see this also in the New Testament. Jesus also comforted His disciples before He went back to Heaven telling them that He was going to prepare a place for them and that the time would come when they would see Him again.
God is the God of comfort. We are comforted by God through the presence of His Holy Spirit in and through us, bringing His healing words of consolation and compassion soothing us in times of grief and pain in life’s difficulties. He is the great Comforter.
