Channels of Blessing
And [Ananias] kept back part of the proceeds, his wife also being aware of it, and brought a certain part and laid it at the apostles’ feet. Acts 5:2
In March of 2021 a huge ship the length of four football pitches was wedged across one of the world’s busiest trade routes. The blocking of the canal by the Ever Given led to major disruption for the global shipping industry. An estimated $400 million dollars an hour was lost due to this mishap.
As God’s stewards, we too are channels. We are human channels of His blessings. Part of God’s reason for blessing us is so we might channel His blessings to others. In the early days of the Church in Jerusalem, believers sold their possessions and gave the funds to the apostles to give to the needy. One couple, Ananias and Sapphira, lied about the amount they donated; they held back part of God’s blessing out of greed. And their decision cost them their lives. Moral of the story is this – when we fail to channel God’s blessings to others, we must examine our motives.
Do not block the blessings of God by holding onto what He has provided you with to give away. Giving becomes a joy when we realize that what we are giving is not ours but God’s. When we open our hands to others, God can fill our hands again.
