Celebrate Joy
For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. Luke 2:11
Are we looking forward to Christmas? This is a question with many different answers because today Christmas means many different things to so many people. Some look forward with joy, some with hope, some with perplexity and some with indifference. Some try to ignore it in the hope that it will go away. While others beam with joy at the mention of the word. Regardless of where you are on the spectrum, I’d like to remind you that there is still joy to be found in the birth of our Savior.
The birth of Jesus was announced to the world by a host of angels through a powerful display of glory and honor to God. Heaven was rejoicing that a Savior had come to set people free from the curse of death brought about by the inherent sin of Adam. As Jesus Himself said, “The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the captives free, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor” (Luke 4:18).
Receive this gift of freedom today as we prepare to celebrate the birth of our Savior.
Prayer for today: Father thank You for Your unending grace and love that sent Your Son to rescue this dark world which includes me. Help me to not focus on all that is wrong this Christmas season, instead help me to embrace the Good News and cause me to reflect some of Your light as we share Christmas with family and friends. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
