Boasting in the Lord

Boasting in the Lord
Therefore, as the Scriptures say, “If you want to boast, boast only about the LORD.” 1 Corinthians 1:31
A sure sign of autumn is the crisp, cool air of the season, and the abundance of all things pumpkin. Pumpkins are popular symbols of harvest time and Halloween. You might be wondering how I can liken being a follower of Christ to a pumpkin. Perhaps you are visualizing this orange, round vegetable and wondering how you could ever be compared to one of these squashes! Or say, we don’t celebrate Halloween so how can I be a pumpkin? Visualize this orange, round vegetable, and consider that, just as a child selects a pumpkin to carve and shape into a unique image, God molds His own design in each of us. He then shines His light for all to see.
Scripture tells us that the Lord chooses us. He lifts us up, cleansing us of the dirt and filth of the world. He opens us up, removing doubt, discouragement, depression, dishonesty, and fear, much like scooping out the slimy, yucky stuff from a pumpkin. Then, He fashions a new creation and fills us with His light for all to behold.
What begins as an ordinary vegetable becomes a lantern of light. Similarly, an everyday person can transform into a tower of hope for all to see. It is Christ who chose and carved us precisely the way He desired. So, let your light shine brightly for all to see. It is He who boast about us and uses us for His honor and glory.
Prayer for today: God, we thank You for choosing and using us. This Halloween, we promise to let our light shine for You. Amen.
