Blessings of Worship

A single day in your courts is better than a thousand anywhere else! I would rather be a gatekeeper in the house of my God than live the good life in the homes of the wicked. Psalm 84:10

There is nothing in this world that compares to worshipping God, walking in a close relationship with Him, enjoying His presence, and His favor. This psalm is all about the blessings of worshipping God in his dwelling place. This is what the psalmist says ‘A single day in your courts is better than a thousand anywhere else! (Psalm 84:10). Those who dwell in God’s house are blessed and they ‘are ever praising you’ (v.4).

The psalmist says he would rather spend one day, a single moment, in the presence of God than a thousand elsewhere. The Message version of verse 10 says: ‘One day spent in your house, this beautiful place of worship, beats thousands spent on Greek island beaches. I’d rather scrub floors in the house of my God than be honored as a guest in the palace of sin’.

To worship God is to experience him as ‘sunshine’. To be in God’s presence brings about a peace like none other. This touches my heart. In this world we can experience a lot of earthly things but none of it matters if we are not in tune with God. If I am outside of God’s will, it doesn’t matter what accolades I receive from people. It is so empty. It truly is. How much more I would rather know in my heart of hearts that I am walking in obedience, joy, and peace, in fellowship with the Lord, heeding His sweet voice.

I’d rather be a doorkeeper if that is what God wants, than have everything that I desire. Better is fellowship with him.

Prayer for today: Loving Father, I worship you today. One day in your presence is better than a thousand elsewhere. Help me to keep trusting in you and worshipping you. Amen.
