Blessed Hour of Prayer
Casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you. 1 Peter 5:7
Have you ever found yourself ‘in over your head?’ While this term is most often used to refer to swimming in water that is deeper than your height, it’s a saying that applies on dry land too because let’s face it, you do not need to go out into the deep of the sea to be in over your head. While some of our troubles come from disobedience there are some troubles which remain a mystery for now. But this we know – God uses each tribulation, every tear, all of your trials to teach us of His sustaining power and reminds us to come to Him in prayer. As our verse for today says ‘casting all your care upon Him’ through prayer.
It’s a fact, we are unable to solve all the problems we face, but the good news is that we do not have to. We can pray to the Father and He will lend us His strength. God’s power is unlimited and His hand is near. When we don’t know what to do, He promises to guide us. When weakness comes, we can ask for His strength. When worried about others, we can entrust the situation to Him.
So what will you choose, prayer or worry? When you worry, it says you think you can solve your own problems without God or even better than God can. But you were not built to handle problems in your own strength. You were created by God to be dependent upon Him, so bring Him your challenges in life and allow Him to help you with them.
Whenever we face turmoil, we have a direct line to our Father—through prayer. He will never abandon us when our troubles overwhelm us. Franny Crosby wrote in her hymn Blessed Hour of Prayer:
“Tis the blessed hour of prayer, when our hearts lowly bend,
And we gather to Jesus, our Savior and Friend;
If we come to Him in faith, His protection to share,
What a balm for the weary! O how sweet to be there!”
Whatever we need, we can ask Him. We were never called to live the Christian life on our own resources. We only do that when we forget who we are. We’re called to put our whole heart into it, so that the Holy Spirit can do through us what we could never do on our own. That’s why `in over our heads` is an opportunity for God to do something amazing and get the glory!
If you’re in over your head – deeper than your own ability, is it time to ask for God’s resources?
Prayer for today: Father God, forgive me for trying to do this in my own strength. You are my one and only Source of peace. I cannot do this alone. I need You. Right now, I commit to You all of my worries and concerns—big and small. They are too much for me, but they are not too difficult for You. I’m asking for Your wisdom, Your perseverance, and Your strength. Help me to trust You more and more. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
