Anchor
So God has given both his promise and his oath. These two things are unchangeable because it is impossible for God to lie. Therefore, we who have fled to him for refuge can have great confidence as we hold to the hope that lies before us. This hope is a strong and trustworthy anchor for our souls. It leads us through the curtain into God’s inner sanctuary. Hebrews 6:18-19
The writer of Hebrews chose the symbol of the anchor to speak about the truthfulness of God’s Word, the certainty of his promises, and the integrity of who He is. Abraham proved a great example. When the Lord gave Abraham the promise of being the father of all fathers, to give him many descendants, God not only promised; he underlined the promise by swearing an oath by himself—for no greater oath was possible—that he would do as he promised. And eventually he did! This faith Abraham exercised was counted unto him as righteousness.
Our lives are shaped by the pounding waves of life. Yet we remain unshakable because we are anchored to the One who is able to keep us from falling. How thankful we should be for the blessed anchor of hope in our God! This anchor is “firm and secure.” The storms may blow, but your anchor will hold. Life may drag, but your anchor won’t. It shall hold!
