An Important Truth
Teacher, which is the most important commandment in the law of Moses? Matthew 22:36
A song titled ‘Cross of God’ by Michael W. Smith sings about the truths written in Matthew 22 when questioned by the Pharisees. He speaks on how we show others, through an outward appearance, that we are followers of Christ. Matthew 22:37-38 puts it this way ‘Jesus replied, “‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment.’ Unfortunately, as the song suggests, many times our actions and words do not always match the outward faith statement we are trying to make.
Although we make this outward declaration, Jesus tells us that believing is more than what we wear. Believing does not make you a better person than anyone else on the outside, but believing is all about what is on the inside. Faith does not separate or make us stand out; our faith should guide us to be more welcoming and accepting.
Jesus challenges us to make bold statements, not with our words or actions but in the way, we treat each other.
