Advent – Light of the World
In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven. Matthew 5:16
How do you know that Christmas time has come? The place lights up! The lyrics to a famous Christmas carol “It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas” is a Christmas song written in 1951 by Meredith Willson goes like this – It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas. Everywhere you go, take a look at the five and ten, it’s glistening once again. With candy canes and silver lanes that glow. It’s one of the favorite elements of Christmas time is all the lights.
In the homes lights are used inside and out to celebrate the Christmas season. I love it when my living room is lighted up, so cozy with the twinkling lights on the tree. Ordinary buildings look festive with strings of bulbs.
Lights make ordinary things look magical and festive.
A great light also pointed to where Baby Jesus was born and guided the wise men to find him. Jesus then calls us lights in Matthew 5. And light was the first thing to be created in the world. This all points to one thing – light is important to God
Just like the star (light) pointed to Jesus, our light points others to him today. This Christmas season don’t hide your light. Find some way to show off the Light of the World through your life. We don’t turn on Christmas lights during the day, do we? No, we turn them on at night. Light shines out most brightly in the darkness and our world is in constant need of light.
It needs the light of Christ shining through you.
