Advent – A Holy Night
Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth! Psalm 46:10
Oh Holy Night is the carol of focus for today.
Oh holy night
The stars are brightly shining
It is the night of our dear savior’s birth
Long lay the world in sin and error, pining
‘Til He appeared and the soul felt it’s worth?
Be still…..these words do not seem to sit well no matter the day or the time. No one wants to be still. These words especially do not seem to have a place in the hustle and bustle of a busy of a busy Christmas season. Often, before we know it, Christmas day has come and gone and we realize that, despite our good intentions, we never experienced the peace that comes from truly relishing in God’s amazing love for us.
So how do you honor the birth of Jesus Christ? The answer lies in Psalm 46:10…”Be still and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth”. When you are still before God, you better understand that whatever you are facing, whatever your day has been like, you can completely rest in the fact that God is God. He’s awesome and amazing and sovereign. He loves us more than we can imagine and He’s got things under control.
Today be intentional about the time you spend being still before God. Perhaps you could put on a jacket and head outside for a peek at the stars. Look in awe and wonder, considering what it must have been on that Holy Night when Christ was born. Or maybe take a minute to read the story of His birth, wondering what Mary and Joseph thought of their newborn son.
Open your Bible, read a favorite Scripture…then sit and wait.
