Abraham – From Doubt to Father of Promise
Abram believed the Lord, and He credited it to him as righteousness. – Genesis 15:6, NIV
Before he became the father of many nations, Abraham struggled to trust the timing of God.
In the Book of Genesis 16, when the promise of a son seemed delayed, Abraham agreed to have a child through Hagar. Impatience created tension, division, and lasting consequences.
His flaw? Taking matters into his own hands.
His mess? Complicating the promise through impatience.
Yet God did not revoke the covenant. Years later, Sarah gave birth to Isaac the promised son.
Abraham’s journey from doubt to promise highlights a transformation from questioning God’s timing to absolute trust in His power. Despite waiting 25 years and facing his own old age, Abraham moved past questioning (Genesis 15) to unwavering faith, fully convinced that God would fulfill His promise of a son, resulting in the birth of Isaac. Abraham learned that purpose unfolds according to God’s timeline, not human urgency.
In this Year of Purpose, remember: rushing ahead of God can create Ishmaels, but waiting on God produces Isaacs.
Delay is not denial.
Prayer for today: Father, teach me to trust Your timing. Forgive me for the times I tried to force what You promised. Strengthen my faith while I wait. Let patience mature my character so I can steward the promise well. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
