A Temporary Darkness
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. Psalm 23:4
Life often brings us through valleys. Seasons marked by uncertainty, fear, or pain. But Psalm 23 reminds us that we are never alone in those moments. “Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for You are with me.” This verse is a powerful reassurance that God’s presence goes with us, even in the darkest places.
David said, “Though I walk through the valley.” Notice he didn’t say, “Though I camp in the valley,” or “Though I stay there forever.” The word “through” is important, it reminds us that the valley is not our destination. It’s a passage, not a permanent place.
The valley is a place we walk through. It’s not our destination. Yes, the valley may seem long, and the shadows may seem overwhelming, but we are on a journey, and that journey leads to hope, to restoration, to God’s provision.
Whatever valley you’re in today, whether it’s a literal battle or a metaphorical one, know that it’s temporary. God is walking with you, guiding you, and protecting you. His promise isn’t that we won’t face trials, but that He will be with us through them.
Prayer for today: Loving Father, thank You for walking with me through every valley. Even when fear and uncertainty surround me, I find peace in knowing You are near. Help me to trust in Your protection and Your guidance. I surrender my fears to You, knowing that You are bigger than any trial I face. May Your peace comfort me today and always. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
