A Spirit-led Heart of Gratitude
Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. 1Thessalonians 5:16-18
Every now and then, life presents us with the opportunity to cultivate a truly grateful heart. There comes a moment when our eyes are opened, and suddenly we realize just how much we have to be thankful for and that we haven’t been thankful at all. In that moment, the phrase “spoiled-brat” may even come to mind. Can you relate?
Perhaps you’ve had moments where you recognize your own ingratitude. Sometimes we shrug it off as an exaggeration. Other times, even with the best intentions we realign our perspective, only to find it slipping away again, and soon we’re back to the rhythms of everyday life.
Why do we struggle to maintain a grateful heart, even when we try so hard? Perhaps the answer lies in the very question: because we try in our own strength.
Today, I encourage you to rely on the Holy Spirit as your source of strength. A Spirit-led life is one in which we respond to the Spirit’s prompting, allowing God’s power to work through our limitations. When we live in this way, our eyes are opened to the source of all blessings, and we are astounded by God’s grace. Then and only then can we begin to understand that it is a privilege to be chosen by God, and in this awareness, our hearts overflow with thanksgiving.
Prayer for today: Heavenly Father, thank You for the gift of Your Spirit, who empowers me beyond my own limitations. Teach me to respond to Your prompting and to live a life marked by genuine gratitude. Help me to see Your hand at work in every detail of my life and to share my thankfulness with others. May my heart be shaped by Your Spirit into one that continually gives You praise. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
