A Song for the Soul
I will make you into a great nation. I will bless you and make you famous, and you will be a blessing to others. Genesis 12:2
Whenever I realize my thoughts have been taken hostage, I have learned to surrender my mind to song. You are probably familiar with the song Way Maker which has grown in popularity as it can be found on most Christian radio stations. There are a number of versions that have been recorded. This one quoted today is by Michael W. Smith, lyrically it is a very simple, repetitive song. The lyrics, though there aren’t many, are incredibly truthful and necessary for my heart, and recently I had an encounter with the vast presence of God through singing. The lyrics say:
‘Even when I don’t see it, You’re working
Even when I can’t feel it, You’re working
You never stop, You never stop working
You never stop, You never stop working’
These words are what my soul regularly needs to be reminded of. God is always at work, no matter what I am seeing or not seeing, and no matter what I am feeling. God doesn’t change with the circumstances. Just because things around me are changing or seem uncertain, I need to remember that God is faithful and true to his promises. He is always working.
We see God at work throughout the Bible. In the Old Testament even when Abraham and Sarah couldn’t get pregnant, God was still working. We also read when Jacob feared the reunion with his brother Esau, God was still working it out and Esau embraced Jacob. Remember Joseph? Even when Joseph was sold by his brothers and then was falsely accused and thrown in prison, God was still working. Even when Pharaoh oppressed the Israelites and tried to weaken them through killing all newborn baby boys, God was still working through Moses.
Today be encouraged and do not equate your current circumstances to the hand of God. Even when our days seem bleak and when the night begins to fall, God is still working. He never stops, He never stops working….believe it!
