A Praise Worthy Entry
Then the multitudes who went before and those who followed cried out, saying: “Hosanna to the Son of David! ‘Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!’ Hosanna in the highest!” Matthew 21:9
Today, we commemorate Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem, a pivotal moment in His earthly ministry. We read in the Gospel of Matthew how ‘they brought the donkey and the colt and placed their cloaks on them for Jesus to sit on. A very large crowd spread their cloaks on the road, while others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road. The crowds that went ahead of him and those that followed shouted, ‘Hosanna to the Son of David!’ ‘Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!’ ‘Hosanna in the highest heaven!’” (Matthew 21:7-9).
Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem was a day of celebration. He was greeted with shouts of praise and adoration. The people welcomed Him as their King, spreading palm branches before Him and shouting, “Hosanna!” Let’s take this opportunity to welcome Jesus into our own lives with open hearts and minds, acknowledging Him as our Savior and King.
The crowds welcomed Him with shouts of praise and adoration, recognizing Him as the long-awaited Messiah. God the Father ordained praise to come from children for His Kingdom purposes. Jesus explained that it was written in God’s word, referring to Psalm 8, where it says, “Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory in the heavens. Through the praise of children and infants you have established a stronghold against your enemies, to silence the foe and the avenger” (Psalms 8:1-2).
Over the years I have seen for myself, again and again, how praise is an amazing spiritual weapon against the devil, whether it is singing, shouting out loud, singing silently, or whispering the words.
As we reflect on this event, let’s consider the significance of Jesus’ kingship in our lives. Is He truly the King of our hearts, or have we allowed other priorities to take His place? Let’s echo the cries of “Hosanna” in our own lives, welcoming Jesus as our rightful King and Lord.
Prayer for today: Dear Heavenly Father, help me to choose praise at all times. I thank You that I have praise as a powerful weapon to establish a stronghold again my enemies. May our hearts resound with praise and adoration for Him, recognizing His sovereignty over every aspect of our lives. Help us to submit to His lordship and follow Him faithfully each day. Amen.
