A New Heart: The Great Exchange
And I will give you a new heart, and I will put a new spirit in you. I will take out your stony, stubborn heart and give you a tender, responsive heart. Ezekiel 36:26
When the women went to the tomb to anoint Jesus, they found that the stone was rolled away. The stone—once a symbol of separation—has been removed, and we now have the freedom to approach God’s throne of mercy. Through Jesus, the way is open for us to receive His peace.
This moment at the tomb points to the great exchange God offers to all who come to Him. Just as the stone was rolled away, God promises to remove the hardness from our hearts. He takes away our stony, stubborn hearts and gives us hearts of flesh, tender and responsive to His love and His will. No longer are we bound by the things that once kept us distant from Him. Through this exchange, we are given the freedom to walk in peace and reconciliation.
God’s promise of a new heart is not just about making us better people—it’s about drawing us closer to His own heart. It’s about becoming the people He created us to be—tender, responsive, and full of compassion. When we surrender to Him, He replaces our hard, unyielding hearts with hearts that beat in rhythm with His, filled with the peace that passes all understanding.
Prayer for today: Lord, thank You for the great exchange You offer—taking away my heart of stone and replacing it with a tender, responsive heart. Thank You for rolling away the barriers that once kept me from You and giving me the freedom to approach Your throne of mercy. I pray that my heart will beat in rhythm with Yours, and that Your peace will fill every part of my life. Help me to respond in love, compassion, and grace to those around me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
