A Man after God’s Heart
Such things were written in the Scriptures long ago to teach us. And the Scriptures give us hope and encouragement as we wait patiently for God’s promises to be fulfilled. Romans 15:4
A characteristic feature of David is that he frequently sought the Lord’s counsel and direction. Whenever David faced a trial, especially with his enemies, he always asked to know God’s will. The encouraging conclusion for us today is that each time David inquired, the Lord graciously gave him a clear and definite answer. This is the answer God left for us many years ago. We are told that all accounts in the Bible “were written….long ago to teach us” (Romans 15:4).
Reading through God’s word we know of nine accounts where David inquired of the Lord. Each inquiry and its results are encouragement for us living through some of the challenges this world has to offer. The take home message from these inquiries is this – David was a man of prayer who was always intent to know His will. This was the main reason why he was called a man after God’s own heart. God says, “I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after My own heart, who will do all My will” (Acts 13: 22). And David did!
May the Lord give us grace to emulate David’s example and to cultivate the habit of always inquiring of the Lord and waiting for His answer. The more we seek direction from God in prayer and the more we desire to know His will, the more God is glorified in our world.
Prayer for today: Oh Lord, give me hope in the areas of my life where I’ve quit believing. I bow down and ask that You give me the strength to carry on. Without you Oh God, I am no one. Lend me Your strength during this season of discouragement and lead me to victory and happiness. I trust in Your plans. Amen
